This book Doing Business – Knowing the Rules and Learning the Ropes is a practical realistic narrative on the larger ecosystem for Doing Business – Practice of Management. Business ecosystem across geographies and even within a large geography, vary markedly; and sometimes tend to be conundrum of diversity of rules, regulations, procedures, practices and informal systems that need to be navigated to deliver results. Many a time these are unstated but have to be learnt through ways that one discovers for one self beyond the officially stated or declared policies, procedures, rules, regulations… Understanding the ‘practices’ to achieve objectives is equally or more important than the knowledge of rules, policies, regulations or even ‘management’ taught in high end MBA programs … There is also a section on Systems Approach to Management that takes the reader through larger perspective to view any situation – Business or Otherwise. The book has largely taken the Indian scenario which is generally perceived to be complex to navigate towards achieving desired goals, but several learnings from it could be applicable anywhere else in different shades and hues.
